You’re not quite sure yet whether you want to do training or a degree course? Then this article can certainly help you make your decision – in the following we will look at the different options.
# What speaks in favour of vocational training in the skilled trades?
If you like to get things done and therefore decide in favour of a vocational training programme in the skilled trades, you will learn many specific construction methods and activities that will make you a qualified skilled worker. During your apprenticeship, you will learn a lot of practical activities on our construction sites and in the training construction yard, and you will be taught the theoretical links in the vocational school. Halfway through your apprenticeship, you will take part in a written intermediate examination in which your level of knowledge will be tested and you can check for yourself where you might need to go into more detail. By the way, passing the intermediate exam is a prerequisite for taking part in the final exam, where you have to prove your practical skills and theoretical knowledge. Once you have passed the final examination, you are a journeyman and can start your professional life. If, in the course of time, you realise that you would like to develop further, you have the option of gaining additional qualifications, taking further training to become a foreman or, with an entrance examination, even going to university.
By the way: We train construction equipment operators (m/f/d), concrete and reinforced concrete builders (m/f/d), pipeline builders (m/f/d) and civil engineering workers (m/f/d). You can find out more about the individual tasks behind the job titles either in our blog What do you actually do on our construction sites or in the training section of our website.
# What speaks for a study in the field of civil engineering
Are you interested in different construction methods and techniques, combinations of building materials and their durability, as well as stress and strain states within building components? Do you also find it exciting to complete projects to the complete satisfaction of the customer, on time and to the highest quality, and to be involved in generating the economic success of the project and thus of the company, or to prepare offers by calculating projects? Then a degree course is certainly the right path for you. Here you will learn a wide range of theoretical background knowledge that is needed to manage construction projects. During your studies, you will attend lectures in various modules, in each of which you will take exams. Exciting project modules enable you to design building constructions, for example, and then examine the details in more detail in a written paper. Finally, you will demonstrate your skills in an independently prepared dissertation, bachelor’s and/or master’s thesis before you start your professional career.
